Black Rhino Radio Residency w/ Mantra, Double O, Blackeye, Fane, Matei

Shout to all the ravers and dancefloor lovers. The first event from Black Rhino Residency at Club Control focuses on jungle music, a culture that left a strong imprint on electronic music and influenced many musical genres.

On the 15th of October, we invite London's friendliest crew of jungle music - Mantra, Double O, and Blackeye MC, representing RUPTURE, an event series and music label promoting jungle music for 16 years. The opening and closing of the event will be the responsibilities of radio broadcasters Fane and Matei.

With each event, Black Rhino Radio and Club Control will introduce the culture behind a particular genre, its particularities, forefathers, and today's icons. Expect articles, interviews, and promo mixes from Black Rhino Radio's broadcasters, all coming to showcase a sound deeply rooted in the dancefloor culture.

RUPTURE: 
The Rupture movement began as a way to showcase the jungle and breaks side of Drum and Bass. Known for pushing experimental, cutting edge production alongside classic jungle breaks, the key to the Rupture sound is having roots planted deeply in the underground.

Established as a club night by Double O & Mantra in 2006, Rupture quickly became one of the most respected events in the UK. Since taking up residency at Corsica Studios 16 years ago, people have been traveling from as far as Canada, the US, and Europe just to witness the legendary Rupture vibe.

By 2012 the success of the party and DIY ethos of jungle, inspired Double O & Mantra to found a record label. This enabled Rupture to further support, cultivate, and release music they truly believed in.

MANTRA
Known for her deep, emotive sets that push the boundaries of drum and bass while still paying homage to its foundation, Mantra brings an intense passion into her selection, striking just the right balance between dark and uplifting. Having played in clubs across London and Europe, Mantra’s talent, skill and passion for promoting diversity in dance music have landed her features in both DJ Mag and Mixmag.

Far more than just a DJ and producer, Mantra’s work developing, curating, and promoting the Rupture brand, as a label and as jungle’s premier event, speak to how deeply drum and bass culture influences her life. Community work has played a vital role in her life and in December 2018 she started the initiative EQ50 to mentor and support women within the heavily male dominated drum and bass genre.

Rupture’s continued growth and success, built with her partner Double O, are a testament to Mantra’s dedication to the junglist movement. Born from a desire to take club nights back to basics, Rupture has built over the past 16 years to form what is now recognized as London’s best underground D&B night. With original line-ups that combine forward-thinking up-and-comers with jungle legends, Mantra and Double O’s hard work and regular appearances on Rinse FM have seen Rupture move from a party into a seminal label, supported by the likes of Om Unit, Doc Scott, Special Request, Digital, and Spirit.

DOUBLE O

Double O (formerly known as 007) is easily one of the most respected heads in Jungle and Drum’n’Bass with a career spanning over 25 years.

Growing up inspired by Black music - especially his older brother’s Reggae sound system - his career propelled forward in the early 90s when he started playing Doncaster Warehouse alongside Carl Cox, DJ Ratty & Grooverider. In 1994 he released one of his most famous productions, the Undercover Agent EP on Formation Records, and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

Today, Double O’s most known for being the co-founder of club night and label Rupture, which he’s been running since 2006 with partner in crime DJ Mantra. World-renowned as the mecca for spiritual breaks and hard hitting bass lines, the Rupture team is headstrong about creating a safe space for ALL ravers to express themselves. It's no wonder Rupture is often dubbed the best platform for Jungle and DNB in the world — including by Resident Advisor, Rinse FM, DJ Mag and Mixmag, publications where they feature regularly.

 Music has enabled Double O to travel the globe, playing to and meeting like-minded people who share a deep love for that underground sound. Known, but not limited to, being a Jungle / DNB DJ, he also produces and selects a banging selection of Acid and Detroit Techno and Roots Reggae. Double O is one of the most driven yet humble OGs you’ll ever meet - making him an ideal role model to inspire the future generation of muscians. If you know, you know!

BLACKEYE MC
Heavily influenced by hip hop, Pop, funk, soul, jazz and reggae and dub, Blackeye uses his knowledge of music to craft his art. Inclined to deliver his deep vocals, not on top of the music as a major focal point, but with a complimentary approach, Blackeye exudes presence enough to touch the music with his deep, soulful tones.

Over the last couple of decades, while developing his skills on the circuit, be it small intimate gigs or pirate stations, Blackeye has amassed some prime residencies over the years, as well as a lengthy outing with a weekly show on Life FM in the early 2000s. Blackeye was now starting to take centre stage before teaming up with Double O and Mantra to host the formidable Rupture jungle events, fast becoming the voice of the night. His tireless drive and passion for the music has seen bookings for Blackeye coming in thick and fast taking him to events up and down the country and beyond to international regard.

Working regularly with many of the scenes pioneers such as Digital & Spirit, Seba, Stretch and label events such as Rupture, Technicality, AKO, Hardware and Metalheadz. Blackeye has crafted his own niche, playing in his own lane to secure the well-earned trust of DJs who can expect Blackeye to enhance any set he hosts.

FANE
Fane is a DJ, music producer and promoter of the more atmospheric and militant style of drum & bass. Starting 2013 he was co-host off the Step In Sessions show at Groove On Radio, and also launched the Nu Doar Bas online platform where, over time, he curated two compilations which featured some of the best bass music artists at the time in Romania, and also a series of guest mixes.

In 2021 Fane started the Disruptive show at Black Rhino Radio where he explores alongside the usual 170 bpm range, more experimental, ambient and cinematic sounds.

MATEI
Matei has been actively exploring music since high school, and his ever-changing style stands as proof. With a focus on electronica and an interest in the left-field, he enjoys finding and playing engaging tracks that hopefully strike a chord.
