We meet again at Control Club for a special edition of Black Rhino Residency! Mixing oldschool and contemporary, local and across the borders, this genre-bending summer session brings in the booth Djrum, Vlad DobrecuMeelouna.

One of the most exciting producers to come out of UK electronic scene in recent years, Djrum boasts pure production talent, informed by club styles such as techno, garage, and jungle, as well as his background in jazz and classical music.

Serving complementary styles for a dancefloor-ready night, local support comes from veteran Vlad Dobrescu and disco darling Meelouna.

Djrum is a perennially acclaimed underground artist, since his first release in 2010 who’s quietly built a list of fans that reads like a who’s who of contemporary dance music for his ability to deftly fuse a range of genres from jazz, hip hop and dubstep to ambient and techno. Genre fluidity has always been a big part of Djrum's music, the list of genres he touches on here is extensive: Techno, Ambient, Modern Classical, Jazz, Electronica, Broken Beat, Samba, Dubstep, Jungle, Footwork, DnB, Triphop, Gabber and Electro. A keen listener of all things new and old, whether it be singer and composer Meredith Monk, early sacred music like Palestrina, John Cage's solo piano works or more laterly the rhymic experimentation of the artists on Livity Sound or Illian Tape his talent is in effortlessly combining his influences into a completely personal and bewitching aesthetic all of his own.

One of Romania’s hip-hop veterans, Vlad Dobrescu aka VD is the founder of Facem Records, the first independent hip-hop label in Romania and a member of CTC band. Mainly snown as an MC and producer, Vlad is also one of the elite DJs of the genre, with hundreds of gigs in his portfolio, and host for the MIC Check show, where he selects the best tracks of the moment. His sets are mainly based on classic tracks, from reggae, soul and funk from the 70s, 80s disco and old school, '90s hip hop and r&b, all the way to contemporary styles. Vlad creates a journey through the history of urban music, from old to new, from rare songs to classics, mixed on the 2 turntables.

Breaking ankles since forever but spinning CDJs since 2017, Meelouna is half of The Ankle Breaker Show and co-cost to the monthly radio show under the same name at Black Rhino Radio. Her primary focus is soul and R&B, mixing it with hip-hop, modern funk, boogie, disco, and house music covering the hottest tracks from the 80s to the 90s.
