Possible Sounds of Early Cinema – is an audio-visual experiment that aims to present pioneering films of the pre-sound Romanian cinema along with sound compositions created by contemporary experimental music artists: Simina Oprescu, Sillyconductor (Cătălin Matei), Somnoroase Păsărele (Gili Mocanu), Miron Ghiu and Dragoș Mărgineanu. This approach proposes both revisiting the pre-sound film archive by imagining a living, reconstructive dialogue with the past as a cultural strategy to increase interest for the niche areas of artistic production (silent film / experimental music) and to overcome the paradigm of "musical accompaniment".The music composed by each sound artist express their unique sensibility towards the emotional, narrative and cultural content of the films, in accordance with their own style and techniques. The cultural project is conceived by Image and Sound, with the support of the National Film Archive and co-funded by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund (AFCN).Image and Sound – a cultural NGO started in 2017 with a focus on visual and sound arts concerning the theoretical and practical framework of contemporary art. We aim to draw new lines of sight - and - sound experience and to encourage artists to create unconventional connections between different art forms. As a result of the restrictions imposed to prevent the spread of COVID 19, the organisers decided to broadcast online and free of charge the screenings, scheduled for April and June, in Bucharest, Iași, Cluj, Timișoara and Brașov, on Vimeo, and on their website .
