I don’t actively seek out music on screen, and whenever music acts merely as a crutch for effect in a film, I find it slightly cringeworthy. Yet, there are films where music is woven into the very fabric of the world being portrayed—where it has every chance of becoming the pivot around which the mood is built.

I believe this mirrors how we process and bond with music in our daily lives: as both a stimulus and a point of reference.

From a young age, I was exposed to the concept of the compilation through bootleg cassettes, which sparked an innate curiosity in me: disparate elements, linked by an unspoken logic, coming together to forge unique connections where none existed before.

This didn’t turn me into a devotee of cinematic montage; instead, it instilled in me a deep distrust of any form of purism.
