This episode looks at milestones in electronic music development, the aesthetic dimension of Herbert Marcusee, the profoundness of thoughts that has driven Morton Subotnick’s work and finally about his great opera: Jacob’s Room.

Morton Subotnick is one of the pioneers in the development of electronic music and multi-media performance and an innovator in working with interactive computer music systems.

After an introduction of electronic instruments into the first half of the last century the episode talks about some of the fascinating breakthroughs in the history of electronic music. Tape Music Centre is indeed one of the inflection points in the story of electronic sound. Initially created “on the premise of utilizing magnetic tape and electronics as compositional tools” the focus growed towards creating technology for electronic music composition”, the Buchla 100.

The second part of the interview held in Berlin 8 years ago discusses studio as an instrument and Morton’s approach on modular synthesizers, technology and the many ways to use it in order to be more creative, more human.
