Interview with Kutiman

Kutiman is a musician, composer, producer, acclaimed video artist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, orchestra leader, digital mixologist, and filmmaker.

He has been releasing music since 2007 debuting with his critically acclaimed self-titled album, which gained him the title of "psychedelic funk architect". The Kutiman debut is a funk, soul, desert blues, and hip-hop cinematic collection of conceptual songs, including superb collaborations with Karolina.
His next project, the YouTube video mash-up Thru-You, put Kutiman in the world music scene with a collage of dozens of unrelated YouTube videos. The online album has reached more than 10 million views and has launched Kutiman into the art world as well, it was shown in the Guggenheim Museum in the States. Time Magazine included the project in their 50 best inventions of 2009, being called "the future of music" and "internet's new frontier".

This Kutiman special explores his passion for sound in many genres from African sounds, funk, electronic, Indian music, and dub. As it will be apparent from the interview the process behind songs or an album is very important to Kutiman and we discussed working with the Kutiman Orchestra, for world cities, with Greenpeace and dubbing his latest LP, Wachaga in Dub.
