A year has passed with plenty of new releases around the sonic hemispheres. Spinning around the globe, we make a pitstop for what was best or most appreciated in the main music genres.

“20 years after its emergence in the UK, dubstep's original sound is still relevant and thriving thanks to passionate people around the world, pushing things forward once more. A mix of innovative artists and exciting labels supporting and encouraging their vision are constantly bending the boundaries of the genre. While it was always open to new ideas, there's now a larger amount of experimentation also coupled with a broader range of influences. From grime to trap and hip-hop, garage, halftime, drum & bass, dub techno, or straight back to the roots dub. With the word dubstep still misinterpreted by the general public (thanks to the mainstream success of Skrillex and the likes), the community now also embraced 140 as an umbrella term for the new sound and culture.

These are 20 tracks I really like from the past year, but this is by no means a top or a best of 2022.” WRK
